Both rifles had the sporter stocks when I acquired them. The scoped rifle was total bare and the action and barrel were striped. It was just completed, with stock finishing, matte job, bolt alteration, safety alteration, scope mounting, and bedding. It is a Yugo VR 69 Model 98. The other was acquired that way, it is an Oberndorf Banner Mauser. Both are fantastic shooters.

I like all guns that do the job they were made to do. I would buy a few more if I had the money but sense I can't find a rich lady who will feed my addictions I will just have to wait.

Well, me, I like the Single Action revolver, blued, case hardened, with ivory, stag, or handsome grained wood grips. Prefer 4 3/4 ", 5 1/2" or 7 1/2" barrels.

Also like the Colt cap-and-ball revolvers.

Blued Smith & Wesson DA revolvers without the locks. Especially in .44 or .45 calibers.

Colt Government Model or Gold Cup auto loaders, also blue steel Combat Commanders.

Lever action rifles, notably the octagon barreled old timers. Either Winchester or Marlin.

The M1 Rifle, as issued.

Customized bolt action rifles, especially those with oiled walnut stocks.

The older Mannlicher carbines, stocked to the muzzle with those spoon shaped bolt handles.

Combination guns, especialy of German pre-war origin.

Hawkin mountain rifles, walnut and brass mounted.

Spencer repeating carbines.

Pugnacious looking pocket "Bulldog" revolvers from Iver Johnson or Webley.

English double rifles.

L.C. Smith double shotguns.

Falling block single shot rifles. The Ruger No. 1 for example.

Virtually anything with oil finished walnut, polished and blued steel, maybe brass or case hardened furnishings.

These I don't like:

Plastic stocks or grips in any form.

Aluminum, Zamak, titanium or pot metal

Protruding magazines

Flashlights taped or clipped to the barrel

Red dot sights or laser sights

Painted metal on guns

Flash hiders, muzzle brakes and suppressors

Folding stocks or detachable stocks

Bob Wright

So I've expressed my druthers. I'm not condemming those who prefer these things. They just don't appeal to my eye.

Same here. I love the lever-action rifles that were being made in the late 1800s. The lever-action rifles revolutionized the firearm industry. All of a sudden here are rifles that can hold several rounds and be fired repeatedly very quickly and easily. I bought my Win 94 in 1973 and still have it.

I used to have a Russian fetish, but I traded all but one of my Mosin Nagants for a truck..............
