Default Winchester model 94

I'm trying to help a friend identify his model 94. The serial number (bottom front of receiver) is 3309, which seems a bit odd. It is old. No safeties. Octagonal barrel. .30 cal. Ejection is straight up. Thanks for any thoughts. Dave

Photos PLEASE.

Interesting that it is a 30 cal (30-30). The cartridge wasn't introduced
until 1895, and the serial number is early 1894. I wonder if it was
re-barreled to 30?

I worried about the same issue in my early years of studying Winchesters. I as well have examined first year guns the were chambered in 30WCF. After alot of reading and studying the worries were cleared up. It seems Winchester didnt necessarily sent the first guns from the factory in an orderly fashion. In fact the first gun to leave the factory was not serial number 1. The first 12 months saw guns shipped in a helter skelter order.

Hello Dave,

Your rifle was actually manufactured (serialized) during February of 1895. It may have the original barrel on it as the 30 WCF cartridge was first offered in early 1895. If you will email me some photos of the rifle I can verify its originality and give you an estimate of its value. Please include pics of all the stamped sriting on the gun. If you contact the Cody Firearmss Museum they can authenticate its production date and the original configuration.

Thanks and I will be glad to help further.
