Winchester Model 70, what's it worth?

I'm currently borrowing a Winchester Model 70 30-06 for Elk hunting this year, and I like the rifle a lot and am considering buying it. It's been sitting in a gun cabinet for a lot of years, and is a little rough around the edges.

The serial number is 461122. Some of the blue-ing is worn off the barrel, the bolt is worn but highly functional and very smooth. There are quite a few scratches and gouges on the stock, but otherwise in good condition.

Any one have some information like when the rifle was made, and what it might be worth?

Any input is appreciated.

Sounds like you would be aquiring a nice hunting rifle. Winchester model 70,s are highly desireable and expensive. However to get the high dollors the gun has to be in excellent original condition. Anything added or redone greatly reduces valve. The rifles are the gold standard of sporting arms, their actions have been described as a sculpture of steel. Shooter rifles as you describe go for @ $750. The rifle was built in 1959 if you are interested.
