“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”Samuel Adams

First off a .25 caliber 30-06 is called a 25-06. Next if you are getting 4,300+ fps out of a 25-06 with a 23 1/2" barrel your chronograph is busted...

Without doing the cronographing myself I would have to agree with WAMBLI. Seems all my work with a 25-06 never came close to that velocity. Next from a distance it looks like an original Winchester barrel as it has a rear sight boss. Since Winchester never chamber the pre -64's for that caliber and assuming it has an original barrel then the only logical explanation is, the gun was chambered for a smaller round and either rechambered and rebored or was originally a 257 Roberts that was bastardized.
