I have a freind who found a winchester in cal. 307. not a 308. he also got some ammo in the deal. does anyone know anything of this cal? any info would help

.307 is simply a rimmed .308. Dies for the .308 work but a different shell plate/case holder is needed. Load as you would a .308 but use round nose/flat nose bullets for tubular magazine.

Yuppers this was winchester's way of packing the short hard hitting power of the 308 into a 94 lever gun action. Good caliber just not popular. More than likely he will end up having to reload for it as I am not sure anyone makes ammo for it anymore.
The prudent thing to do is to load for a 307Win and not a 308Win. There's a reason why there are different data for both. By some of the Hornady 160gr spire point FTX bullets to handload to get the full potential of the round.
