Winchester 94
I have a Winchester 94 that I was given, when I cycle the action the bolt doesn't close all the way on the bullet, but when the chamber is empty it works fine. Any suggestions? I'am thinking maybe headspace? Thanks for the help:confused:.

Are you sure you have the right caliber ammunition? .32 Special and .30-30 look awfully similar.

That sounds like wrong ammo or obstruction in the chamber, have a gun smith check it out.

same as above wrong ammo or something in the chamber. Take it to a smith he should have a bore scope and would be able to look down in there and see if anything is messed up.

Thanks for the info guy's, I have checked the barrel the ammo and nothing is wrong there. The bolt doesn't close all the way. The bullet is all the way in the chamber. It is just hard to get the bolt to close the rest of the way.

In the past 10.6 decades, Win 94s have had many small internal changes and come in many calibers beyond just 30-30. Assuming someone hasn't stuck on a bolt from a 94AE into a 94 to make a mis-matched parts gun, what caliber is yours?

I am agreeing with others that something is wrong, and it is probably in the cartridge chosen if there is no obstruction in the barrel. Since you raise the headspace issue, are you trying to load handloads? If so, then it is probably a sizing and or bullet size issue. Manufacturers have expectations as to what length the cartridge will be, changing that can cause problems with the freebore.
