I have a Model 1895 in 30 US (30-40 Krag) that is all original except that the buckhorn rear sight was replaced with a Lyman Model 21 aperture sight. I have had this appraise at $850 by two different gunshops. It was known up front that I was not looking to sell it as it was my father's so I believe that they gave me a honest price.

I have been around antique firearms for more years than I care to admit to, and the old "rule of thumb" of collectors,is that a refinished firearm is worth 1/3rd of value of an original gun in 50% condition. Have seen hundfreds sell, I have to concur with this estimate. I saw a 50% condition 1895 Winchester 303 British rifle at a gun auction a year ago and it didnt meet the owners reserve of $1,100. I bid it to $1,000 and the next highest bid was $750.
