Ok so this is 2 things I'm doing here, 1st is I'm bragging about how lucky I was to find this GEM I waited and saved for a long, long, long time! 2nd of the other photo even shows up is I've seen this with other CMP Garand's is this little jar of grease. Does anyone maybe know what grease they've sent in rifle stock cleaning parts? I only ask because if they send them out with the rifle, than it must be what they recommend? Or does anyone have a better suggestion!

Just because this was sent with the rifle doesnt mean its the best or recommended. These little bottles of grease came with every Garand. There are still cases of the little bottles that show up at gun shows quite regularly. Usually @ 50 cents apiece. I believe to much is made of oiling and cleaning. I find this grease works but not better than many and infireior to other modern lubes. I have used about every kind of oil and grease over the decades. I even had to use motor oil wiped off the dipstick of an engine. They all work. Even used Crisco cooking grease once.

That was state of the art in 1936. It is interesting, but not the best available today. Many far better options are commercially available.

Hard to say what that grease, Lithium maybe is but anything that needs a heavier lube buy some pro-shot -pro-gold.. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/924009/pro-shot-pro-gold-gun-grease-lubricant-1-oz-jar

Nice item to have to go along with the Garand. That being said, do yourself a favor and actually use Tetra grease.

ANY good quality wheel bearing grease is more thn adequate for a semi auto Garand. Todays grease is much better quality than what was issued with the Garand years ago
Go to auto parts store and pic up a tube, it will last you a liftime and save you $$$
