What's your favorite rifle to shoot?

Take away the 'cool' factor, the tactical usefulness, the history and the ammo cost.

It's just you, your rifle, a warm afternoon and a box of ammo...

What's your favorite paper puncher?

Mine is fast becoming my 1944 Yugoslavian capture German Kar98k.

25-5 09-28-2012 01:44 PM

The 98 looks great. I am enjoying my M1A.

SSGN_Doc 09-28-2012 02:18 PM

One of my favorites is a Marlin 336. Not the longest range rifle. Not the most tacticool, or the cheapest to shoot. But a pleasant shooter that is more accurate than most folks would think, handy enough to carry in thick woods. Powerful enough for most game inside 200 yds. Smooth and fast into action and cycling for follow ups. Didn't break the bank to buy it and ammo is. Cheaper than a lot of other hunting calibers. Reloading is pretty simple and cheap as well.

I get a special thrill out of running ammo through my SA NM M1A but my favorite shooter is my Winchester Model 94. I have had it for 39 years and it is still so much fun to shoot. My aim is pretty straight and true with this rifle.

I couldn't possibly give only one answer...kinda like asking what's your favorite song...

I go through phases...when I got the 10/22 scoped and zeroed and didn't shoot anything else for a couple of months...

Each Mosin I get is fed at least 400 rounds, usually 3ish range trips, before I put it up...(more like it puts ME down...:) ) Bolt actions are just so damn cool!!!

I've recently dipped my toes in the AR pool and have shot one every time out for the last 4 or 5 range trips...[drooling]...The other long guns are SO jealous...;)

But I don't think I could ever land on just one......If I absolutely HAD to pick, It'd be the Mosin for the challenge factor...Seems like sometimes that mil-surp ammo has a mind of it's own...

Of course my choices and overall experience are limited compared to some folks, sure wouldn't mind getting my grubby paws on a Model 70...[drools some more]...

rocshaman 09-28-2012 03:05 PM

I really just like going out and shooting my old Marlin 60. You can shoot all day and it don't break the bank plus you don't have to have hearing protection of some sort. We'll shoot turtles all day long down at our pond, great fun.

rjgnwdc 09-28-2012 03:17 PM

My Bushmaster right now

This may change shortly but my M4 is a ball to shoot but I just got a Benelli R1 in .300 win mag and with the Comfortech recoil system it's pretty fun to shoot, but even with reloading my own its pretty expensive to shoot.
Here's a peek at my Bushy

USEBOTHHANDS 09-28-2012 03:37 PM

winchester model 70 .243 'Coyote' stainless, 24" heavy barrel (not bull barrel)

sweetest rifle i have ever shot.

CRAZY64 09-28-2012 03:37 PM

For pure fun and cheapness I just can't beat my Russian Sks. Shoot it all day with mil-surp ammo and costs less than I pay for lunch. As for long range I have been having a fun time working out loads on my 300 win may TC venture that have been keeping me happy and my old favorite is my coley model 60. Now by no means is it excessively accurate but the 6x norinco scope makes it fun shooting poker chips at 100 yards, add the memories it brings back shooting off thousands of rounds with this rifle when I was a kid back on the farm is pure pleasure.

aandabooks 09-28-2012 03:58 PM

Probably my Savage BV .22. If I feel like I want to shoot a bit more gun but not give up accuracy, it would be my Interarms Mark X .30-06.

jeepejeep 09-28-2012 05:05 PM

My 450 Bushmaster. A very close second is my son's Garand.

Trez 09-28-2012 05:20 PM

1903 Springfield!!! :D

Old_Crow 09-28-2012 06:27 PM

It's a toss up between a BAR 30/06 and a 10/22. Just according to my mood.

hmh 09-28-2012 07:50 PM

Suppressed 10/22 with cci subsonic lr hp.

shon0331 09-28-2012 07:55 PM

Would definitely have to be my 25-06. Could sit there all day and put rounds down range.

Probably my Saiga AK just because its the newest to the collection although I love my Marlin Model 60

Babyfacenelson 09-28-2012 08:03 PM

Can i cheat?
I prefer the ruger super rehawk 44mag to any rifle.

If i am REQUIRED to play by the rules than probably a 243 in rem 700 or a little rossi single.

I got a saiga 12 and absolutely love that thing. Had it for about a year now and it hasn't let me down.

I Always wanted 25-06 and also a .280 but never did get one. :)

I would have to say my favorite is my Remington 7600 Carbine in 06. I love this rifle. :)

.280 is. Nice as well but still can't leave my 25-06 in the safe long at all.

locutus 09-28-2012 08:17 PM

I've got three. AR-14 M4, Model 94 Winchester .30-30, and probably my true favorite fun gun, the old No.1,mk111 Enfield. (Mine's an Australian Lithgow.:))

Ya a friend of mine has a 25-06. He uses it for everything. He even smokes coyotes at insane ranges with the thing. It's definitely a shooter although I know his shooting ability helps.

Kdub 09-28-2012 08:46 PM

Hands down my S&W 15-22. Cheap to shoot and its just a riot.

gunsmoke11 09-28-2012 09:28 PM

I've got many rifles, but for some reason I enjoy shooting my special ordered Winchester model 1892 44-40 Trapper with 17 1/2" barrel, mfg 1898. It's in near new condition, but because of high value I shoot it on very rare occasions. Because of it's size and calibre it's like a toy. Besides, shooting something that you don't know historically where it's been makes it even more interesting.

my Winchester 74 .22 semi. it holds 14 rounds, it shoulders & points naturally, & if i feel the need, i can rattle all 14 of those off in a blink or 2 of an eye & still keep 'em pretty close together.

gunsmoke11 09-29-2012 12:51 AM

I have to agree about shooting my Winchester 62 .22. It's relaxing, accurate and shoots on and on cheaply. Nice feeling like a kid again shoot'n .22's.

That's a tough question?

I like and appreciate all of them from my rimfires,to the semi auto centerfires 5.56s and 308. I'm probably most addicted to smooth accurate bolt actions 22-250 rem, 6mm rem, 7mm-08 rem, 280 rem, 308 win, 30-06 springfield, and 7mm rem mag.

IMHO Doesn't get much better than a good accurate bolt action in a bean field whitetailin' :)

Blueguns 09-29-2012 01:25 AM

Removed by me for redundancy.

nitestalker 09-29-2012 01:34 AM

I must agree with the riflemen who choose the 25-06. I have had one before Remington claimed the old .25 Niedner as there own. Yes, it will take wolves out to unreal ranges. As they say that old .25-06 shoots flatter than a bookeepers a$$.

FearTheFree7 09-29-2012 01:41 AM

M1 Garand or M1 Carbine tough call for sure!

That would be one of my MAS 49/56`s, it`s just the cool factor I guess.............

The_Kid 09-29-2012 11:50 PM

I like my Win94ae... here's my last shot with it.

Most of the year I can only shoot 400 yards; so the 30-30 makes for challenging shooting.

I'd have to say my 2 Howas are on the top of my list.

The Sporter is a. 22-250 and the heavy is my baby, .223.

I have both triggers set to break at a nice crisp 2 lbs with absolutely no creep or over-travel.

My Favorite Would be the Springfield socom m1A, if I had one..

I just can't find anyone willing to trade me one yet...

Wiebelhaus 09-30-2012 05:30 AM

It's not my own, my buddy is a pro and has an AR15 he built, it's like shooting a caddy after shooting my pinto. lol

MOshooter 09-30-2012 04:20 PM

7mm Rem Mag.

Rick1967 09-30-2012 04:44 PM

I love my AR15. Probably because I built it myself. It has been sitting in the safe for a couple of months. I just have too many guns. And I am getting ready for Elk Season. Can't use a .223 for that. Got to get it out to the range to punch some paper soon.

I have been doing some work on my mossberg 472 lately. That is a fun gun. But it is not like my AR.
