I have never seen a bent bolt FR-8, not to say some were not made. Some could have been modified. In my experience 98% or more of each will comply with my first statement.

Can anyone ID this K98 Mauser? It is dated 1940, and has a 42 at the top of the receiver

I've had 2 bent bolt FR8's. 1 blued, 1 parkerized. Both were original and matching. Wish I had the blued one now. Very accurate.

I'm with robo, for seeing lots of FR8's having straight bolt handles (i own two), & FR7's having bent handles, but if jpattersonnh says both may have bent or straight handles,i'm in agreeance

jp,dont the FR7's have 3 bolt lugs,& the FR8's have four? or vise versa?

I believe they all have typical 2 lug mauser bolts.

Seriously? We would need much more info than that. A pic and a more detailed description would be the first step.

Who took over the thread? Does the lack of one lug really make that much of a difference on the mausers? I have one that I was going to sporterize into a magnum but maybe I shouldn't and go for a stronger action instead.
