What's this mauser?
My brother had a rifle that he was supposed to give to me but he sold it before I could get out of state and pick it up. It looked like a bolt action mauser 98, even had the mauser floor plate, but barrel and stock looked more like a ak or sks. I enjoyed shooting it and want to find one to buy. Just can't remember what it was called to do a search. Anyone know what it is?

Without more info it is hard to say however it may have been a mauser that had been sporterized, a very common thing to do. I own two that have been sporterized and am currently working on a third. If you have any pictures or could provide more information it would help.

I have absolutely no idea and no picures. I have nothing to go on. I wish I did. I was hopeing someone could give me a starting point to work with but it might be more difficult than I thought. The only details I can think of is that it had what looked like an ak47 barrel and an m16 style muzzle brake. Even had the gas tube, or what looked like one. The stock was black synthetic and wrapped around the barrel somewhat like an ak. I'm pretty sure it was a factory gun because I remember it had a name. Just can't think of it.

Look up the Spanish FR-8. This is likely what it is/was. Large ring Mauser with a CETME barrel assembly. I have one. Uber cool bolt gun, but kicks pretty hard for a 7.62 NATO rifle.

True dat. Bent bolt - FR-7 Straight bolt - FR-8
The FR-7 is a small ring Mauser action.

if it is the FR-7,arent those the weak rifles?(NOT AS MANY BOLT LUGS) - if chambered in 7.62x51 CETME

Both wrong. FR8 can be bent or strait. FR7 can be 2 different designs. Similar to the original 93 action rifle in carbine form with bent eared front sight, or similar small ring FR8 looking. FR7's are great rifles chambered in 7.62x51. My oldest son has an FR8, I have an old freind that has a bent eared FR7, that rifle is pure sexy!

That's it! FR-7. Now I don't have to go crazy trying to figure out what it is. Thanks guys.
Does anybody know how accurate these guns are? How much would I be looking at to pick one up?
