Back in the day
We used to cruse the country roads glassing for woodchucks. When we found a field that had a few we would ask the owners if we could shoot them. The farmers were glad to be rid of them, sometimes they would even offer to pay us per carcus. Most shots were over 200 yds. and the fun started at 300-400 yds. I shot a sporterized 1917 eddystone with a Douglas supreme 24" barrel and a 2-7 Redfield scope. My friend shot a 25.06 Weatherby with a 3-9 Bushnell. By the middle of summer we did'nt miss many at those ranges.
Oh yea, we would clean them and freeze them and at the end of september we would have a freezer full, about 200 or 250 chucks. We would cut them in pieces and parboil them and roast them on a bon fire like hotdogs on a stick. Delicious with beer and corn cooked in the same fire. There would be between 30 and 50 people at our Chuck Roasts.
When deer season came around, we knew where our guns were hitting.
