My first one was a 16-ga single-shot shotgun when I was 12, Stevens I think. It was torched when my parent's house burned in 1981, after I had gotten out of college and moved to Florida.

Other than my Daisy BB gun, my first was a Marlin single shot 22 bolt gun. Not sure the model # but it had a " T " handle in the back of the bolt similar to an AR to cock it...also a chipmunk in the grip of the stock. Wish I still had it for my son.

Ok, I guess I lost track of the topic. My first rifle was a Western Field .22 lr semi-auto, which I received from Dad when I was 13, and still have. First gun was the shotgun.

I learned to shoot with Dad's Anschutz 1441/42 .22 Sporter... My first rifle was my Weatherby Vanguard .223

My first rifle was an Ithaca .22 single shot lever action. It was styled after the model 94. My parents bought that rifle for me when I was 11. Two years later I saved my allowance and chore money and bought a used Mossberg repeating (clip/magazine fed) .22 bolt action. I bet I had shot 10,000 rounds of .22 through those two rifles before they were stolen when I was in college by my druggie sister's asshat friends.

My first major purchase with my first paycheck after I graduated from school was a Marlin 336 in .30-30.

Browning .22 semi auto made in Belgium when I was three. I was five before I could shoot it by myself and then only from the hip.

Could it have been a Savage? Savage had a 16ga break-open single shot that had a kick like a horse, and when you broke it open the empty shell ejected about 30 feet.

It might have been a Savage. I know that on my first hunting trip, Dad put me in the woods sitting next to a tree, a doe came along, I shot at it, and the doe ran off. No blood, and couldn't figure out how I missed with a load of #1 buckshot, then Dad sees the bark chewed up on a tree - about 10' up!

Next morning, he hands me his Remington 742 .30-06, a buck came along, and I missed. And forgot it was a self-loader, racked the slide back, but eased it forward so as not to make too much noise. The buck was still standing there. Pulled the trigger - nothing. Slide wasn't all the way in, but I didn't realize that.

Next weekend, having been informed of what I did wrong, I was in my blind with the 742, a doe came along, I shot, she ran, and I kept shooting until the gun was empty. Hit it with the first shot, and missed the rest. Never did get a deer with the shotgun, but went on to take a few doves and one quail with it.

My first rifle was never truly mine at first, but it was a rifle that my older brother abandoned when he went to college,it was a savage/springfield .22 single shot bolt action. It own it now,it's beat up and has a piece of strap metal stuck between the bolt and reciever because the bolt wore down so much from over use,I now use it for pest control,it's a real beater but does the job.
