It was a bolt action single shot 22 short. I was in 10th grade ROTC. We shot once a week for two years. It was the best class I ever took in high school.

My first rifle was a Marlin 1895G in 45-70, that "Crazy Ray" of Ray's Sporting Goods in Dallas sold to me for a couple of hundred bucks.

That rifle taught me how to handle recoil, eliminate a flinch, etc.

I was 17 or so and had only shot BB guns and shotguns before that.

I had a lot of fun with the Marlin, and eventually took it deer hunting. I stripped the stock and gave it an oil finish, gave it a blade front sight and a Williams peep.

My cousins grandpa had one. We tried to wear that thing out when we were kids. Fine little guns.

Mine was a Remington target master. single shot 22 and it has me convinced still that a single shot would be the best way to teach kids to shoot. That way they're forced to try and make good shots instead of seeing how much lead they can get down range. Still have it and still shot it anytime I have a reason to get it out
