I just wanted to get a general concensus from all of the varmint smacking guys out there on what their favorite rifle is for rodent eradication. My AR in .223

.204 Ruger barrel on my TC Encore pro hunter. Of course that's a single shot situation... I only have one semi auto rifle so it will have to do if targets are abundant.

Couple of shots of my Savage 12FVSS. One in action on a ground squirrel eradication mission, and one in the static "photo op" position. It is topped with a Meopta 4-16x44.

I got 3 varmint rigs.

First Remington 700 VLS 223 topped with a Nikon Monarch UCC 6.5-20x42mm Timney 1# trigger and a Callahan Firing pin. It has a Leupold VX-II 6-18x40 in the pic below.



My newest one. RRA predator Pursuit Rifle 223 20" barrel topped with a Nikon Monarch 6-24x50mm.



The bigun If you want to reach out and touch something a little to far for one of my 223 to handle. a Semicustom based on a 1917 Enfield action has a 26" Douglas SS barrel topped with a Bushnell elite 4200 6-24x40mm in custom mounts.

What firearm I use depends upon when, what, and area Im hunting. For spring prairie dog pup shooting when there a lot of shots between 25 t0 150 yards a pair of Cooper 57M LVT Mdl rifles caliber 17 HM2 and 17HMR are used. By mid summer when the p dogs shots get over 150 yards I switch to a Remington 700 17 Fireball and Ruger Target 204 Ruger. By fall when the shots are slower and the prairie dogs are educated about pickups and muzzle blast so out comes the old tang safety Ruger 22-250 Rem, 220 Swift, and Winchester Varmint 243 Winchester. Iv ben working on prairie population controll since 1949 so over the years I got the rifles to do the job. I have used the 22 LR, 22WMR, 22Hornet, 221 Fireball, 222 Rem and 223 Rem , but not much any more. But at 75 years old I still enjoy shooting all of them.
