1. Vintage Smith and Wesson Revolvers. While I love their wheelguns, never cared for their automatics except for model 41; don't like the new Smiths with the internal lock/safety.

2. Ruger. On pistols alone they would be a close number three, but when you throw in their rifles, that bumps them up a notch.

3. Colt.

4. Browning. For the Hi Power and the A5 shotgun.

5. Remington.

Now, I have shot a lot more makes of handguns than rifles, so I'm having to go by with what I've shot.

I have to go with S&W and Colt tied for #1 for all their fine revolvers, semiautos and ARs. Then Remington #3 for all they've done in the past, you just can't ignore their shotguns either.

Also you can't ignore what Glock has done to transform the handgun market over the last few decades, #4.

Now it gets tough, I want to go Marlin for #5 for their amazing rifles over the years. But really it's a tie with Winchester, Ruger and a dozen other makes. Actually there are too many great manufacturers to limit the list to five.

Sako, Sig Sauer, Pre-64 Winchester, Smith&Wesson, Browning. I'd squeeze in FN as a 6th.

2.Sako their Tikka line and TRG 22
3.SIG especially their early West German pistols, PE 57 and AMT
4.Noveske

What is a real shame is companies that were bought, and then the name dissapears from History. Berretta has done this with Husqvarna, HVA.

Rifles and handguns are 2 seperate lists.

Rifles:
Husqvarna/HVA
FN
Mauser
Howa
CZ No specific order.

Handguns:
Sig Sauer
Wilson Combat
S&W (wheelguns)
H&R 9 shot .22's, Just love 'em
Pretty much any 1911.
