What was the standard issue Swiss rifle in the 70's?

Curious if anybody would know what would've been the standard issue rifle the Swiss Army would've had in the mid to late 1970's.

Sturmgewehr 57

Can't remember the model. STG xx. 7.5 Swiss. It was a big heavy and expensive rifle.

SSGN_Doc 11-03-2012 07:50 PM

JTJ got it.

RufusTFirefly 11-03-2012 07:57 PM

JTJ thanks. Now, is there a civvy version available in the US?

c3shooter 11-03-2012 08:47 PM

Closest to a civvy version is the SIG 510. In semi auto, and in caliber 7.62 NATO instead of 7.5 Swiss. Neither it or the 57 is a pretty rifle- but works.

Wasn't the civilian version the SIG AMT???

The AMT (American Match Target) was one variety of the 510. Some info and pics-
