I thought the BAR held 20 rds of .30-06???

Browning made two different BAR's. one was a fully auto military version that used a 30-06. the other was a semi-auto hunting rifle that was offered in many different cartridges. IIRC, they still make the hunting version.

i'd like to see the Savage Model 99 brought back out, in some of the Savage calibers like the Savage 300 and the Savage 250-3000.
Or even in the .308. I really liked the Savage 99 for the fact that it could shoot Spitzer bullets, and give you that flat shooting performance out of a lever gun.

i passed over a lot of those older Savage 99's when they were reasonably priced used years ago. now people have a pretty good idea of their worth and price them accordingly.

as i have gotten older i now appreciate their simple elegance and solid performance. last one i looked at on consignment a couple of years ago, was an early factory take-down model, priced at $1300. even a few nice used ones i have run across are in the $500-700 range depending on condition.

I have seen several used 99's lately but But Browning makes the BLR in 243, 308 and 358 with a drop mag so you can use spitzers. Even have a take down. I had a 99 in 308 and it hated 165's but did OK on 150 and 180. I have an older BLR in 308 equipped with a peep sight. They still make them. Might have added more cartridges based on the 308.

Several guys at the range tonight were wishing there was a lever gun that shot .460 S&W Magnum rounds. They said it would be a great deer gun.
