AHHHH HAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAA that is awesome. Within 5 minutes I was able to ruffle my compadre's feathers.

Glad to have you back, Hillbilly. You have been missed and your skills have been needed here.

Funny that even hunters can mess up a hunting rifle question....LMAO.

A light rifle is great for hunting, and 14# is heavy for hunting. That 870 is not gonna reach out nearly as far as some of the suggestions. I suggest .243 minimum and if the OP wants to stay under .30-06, then it comes down to .243 or .270. Marlin makes a nice stick with the XL-7 for a great price that comes in those calibers.
