It was a well planned out mission. It was at night too.
The teams securing the inner yard would have had assault rifles suppressed. Isn't the MP5 a typical SEAL assault rifle?
Probably a few snipers would have quickly taken position on the outside of the compound to take out anyone trying to flee.
The teams doing the indoor sweep would have been armed for close quarter. I'm thinking a 45 handgun suppressed and perhaps with a laser and/or flashlight. I'd bet the lights were off in most rooms.
One thing we know is it was the indoor sweep that got him. They entered his bedroom and shot him right away. I'm betting on a 45.

I've been reading some googled up rumors about this.
Another leading rumor is the HK416.
Additionally, an account of a "double tap" rumor however seems to indicate a handgun being more likely.
Despite what sounds like a pretty credible rumor on the HK416, I'd still place bets on the 45 handgun myself.

Does it really matter? The POS is dead. It blew the top off his head off, the team was a search and destroy. You can wear wife beater shirts, talk out of your @ss, and none of it matters. I don't have the inside scoop, don't care. Ding Dong The Prick is DEAD! I'm from NY. This was personal, glad he's gone.

Sure it matters! The only scenarios close to this would have been if a US GI shot Saddam or Hitler. Those didn't end that way though.
What gun killed Osama will get lasting fame and popularity!
There are many good reasons to keep secret the identity of the shooter, but the gun-type should be released "unless" it was a new secret type of gun.
