I did?

How about a thread reference so I can take credit.

I seem to remember a post to that effect but can't remember if it was mine.

Hey Cane. I found it. Does this look familiar?

Barrel Length / Muzzle Velocity

A little over 20 years ago the American Rifleman staff did a test using a 44 Magnum revolver equipped with a 18" barrel that was shortened in one inch increments. Five shots were fired at each barrel length, with each of the three brands of factory loads, Federal, Winchester and Remington, all using 240 gn bullets. The instrumental velocities shown are the averages obtained, after smoothing the data to remove the effects of random variations in velocity and thus to represent the incremental velocity changes more accurately.

1" 742 FPS
2" 935
3" 1067
4" 1165
5" 1239
6" 1298
7" 1345
8" 1384
9" 1417
10" 1445
11" 1469
12" 1490
13" 1508
14" 1525
15" 1539
16" 1552
17" 1564
18" 1575

A few weeks ago I'd have only offered you one answer, and then I shot Cane's Hi-Power. I love my XD 9, but I'd have sex with that Browning, buy it a car, and get a picture of it tattooed on my face..gorknoids

That was the post I remembered by Cane. But I have seen another one too. The other one had an even longer barrel. There was a point where the velocity dropped by going up or down in length. I just can't remember where or what lenght.

I suspect it was done shooting off a vice bench with a gas fed trigger pull. If not, I would not want to be the one who had to shoot 5 shots from 1" barrel in .44 mag. Plus, when did this become a thread about pistol barrel lenghts like indian25 stated. It is in the General Rifle section. Just asking.

One of my friends is an accomplished BR shooter and a techie that rounds numbers at 4 decimal places. We are working on a wildcat together and with his software he was able to model the crtridge based on the components and calculate 100% powder burn to the length of barrel we are using. Computers have taken 99% of the guess work out of this game.

Cause in the barrel you got the rifling which is the spiral inside,
And because the rifling is smaller than the barrel diameter, the bullet spin.
And more the bullet spin, better it will pass through the air. We call that inertia.
So if the barrel is long, the bullet's gonna spin more.

It depend the caliber too!
Once a bullet begins to spin at a rate determined by the rifling twist rate and it has completed a full revolution at that rate, more rifling will not make it "spin more". It will continue at that rate.

Can you give me the name of this software cause I reload myself.
And if you want RCBS have the software `load` to calculate the balistic of your caliber. The extern, intern and the terminal balistic. plus you have a cartridge designer who draw the cartridge with the size of it.
