regardless of what some people say or think, Remington's quality hasn't slipped in that i have seen from their products since the Freedom Groups acquisition of Remington. i have seen and bought some of their products since the buyout by the Freedon Group and i can say i haven't seen any issues that would cause concern. the metal work and finish are great, wood fit and finish are top notch and accuracy just as it's always been, very good.

Remington makes many different left handed models that could be well suited for your needs and would serve you well. one thing i will say, the wood on my older Remingtons are a little nicer looking than the newer ones, but that is just a personal observation on my part.

I vote .308 savage. I have heard that they are doing a left hand with the Axis. I have a .308 Axis Xp with the 3-9x40 scope and love it. Unbeatable for the price of $329 on sale at Cabela's.

I've only taken mine to 200 yards so far with tolerable results. Hit a clay pigeon first try after a few shots on paper. I'm hoping to take it out further but have to find somewhere to do it. Mine loves Federal gold medal match 168gr Sierra HPBT. It's grouped well with anything that weight or less. Tried 180gr and they wouldn't stay on a piece of paper at 100. For a hunting round I'm using federal power shok (blue box) 150gr soft point.

308 is a good round but it wouldn't do well beyond 300 yards. Velocity drops down to about 1400 fops at that range as well as drop about 3 feet at 300 yards...

I don't know what you think that you're talking about here but it's not a .308!

Attached is a ballistics table for a 150gr Federal power shok soft point with a muzzle velocity of 2820. Even with bullets as heavy as 180gr the velocity at 300 yards is still over 2000 and the drop is about 11inches.

For target shooting people take .308 to 800 or even 1000 yards frequently. For hunting generally 400-500 would be the max ethical kill range due to energy loss, if a shooter and rifle were able to make proper bullet placement at that range.
