What is the best whitetail hunting rifle?
im looking for a left handed bolt action rifle but i dont know what to get. ive been looking around and have seen a lot about the marlin xl7 and a couple savage guns. what are some of the guns i should be looking at and what would be the best caliber for whitetail deer?

You might look at the Howa (basically the Weatherby Vanguard), the Ruger 77, and many others. I have a Marlin 7xl in .25-06 and it shoots great. The best caliber is anything larger than .223 that you can shoot accurately.

Remington 700 bdl in 270. Put a good scope on it and you have a 500+ yard rifle if you're that good.

Depends on the area I live in new England so I commonly use my lever action 30 30. if I'm hunting the fields I use my 8mm....gonna set up my k31 for this season....

i think it depends on your circumstances and environment. at what ranges are you going to be hunting at? what is the terrain like? there are too many variables to consider to just say such and such gun and caliber are the best for hunting white tailed deer. being a lefty, it does somewhat limit your choices unless you are willing to adapt to the rifle of choice. please give some more specifics so we can make better informed suggestions that might be better suited to your type of hunting.

I won't say it is the best rifle for whitetail deer, but here is my setup. It is a NEF Handi Rifle in .30-06 with a 3-9x40 scope. I shoot a 150 grain Remington Corelokt. The rifle is relatively inexpensive and is ambidextress (SIC?). There is an extension that goes on the hammer to make cocking with a scope easy. It can go right or left.

I read a lot of bad press for the Remington Corelokt, but I have fired my '06 nine times at deer at ranges from 25 to 125 yards and have put nine deer on the ground. Some dropped in their tracks, some ran but none more than a hundred yards. Those that ran left an easy to follow blood trail. And most of those times I didn't have to follow the blood trail, I could see where they fell.

best whitetail rifle
the best rifle for whitetail is one that you can really shoot .....dependable ,accurate at 100yrds thats cartridge produces at least 1000 ftlbs of energy at 100yrds ....for ethical 1 shot kill ratios . be it single shot , semi -auto ,lever or bolt . paper punchers talk about moa's ..but if you can shoot inside a 4 inch cirle at 200 yrds you are gonna be eating venison. my favorite is .308 and the 30-06

There is not best. All that are out there well deer . Even the crappy grouping rifles can be deer accurate out to 400 yards. Just buy for the most bang for your dollar. The marlin will do fine so well any savage you buy.
