I have one of the cheaper ATR100 models in 30-06 from about 6 years ago, and it's brought home dinner, which is what I bought it for. Even if you drive over this gun with a cement mixer, you might get teary-eyed, but it wouldn't hurt as bad than if it was a Weatherby. The newer ATR100's are now equipped with a trigger that's like the Savage Accu-trigger for smoother action. The 4x4 series Mossbers have had very good reviews and they now have what's called a Night Train model.

I thought I saw somewhere recently that Howa makes the Mossbergs, too.

I know that there's a shotgun(I think also new rifle lineup too) put out by Mossberg that's built in Mexico called the "Maverick". Like Mossberg--NO Thrills, Frills or Excitements, just reliability and dependability. I don't know of any gun manufacturer here in the USA that MAKES ALL their own parts under 1 roof, but I've been wrong before. Only Henry & Hi Point Firearms claims that they make their guns TOTALLY here in USA, and even they have some of their parts Made or Cast, with assistance from other manufacturers here in the US and just assemble them, AND/OR do final machining for the Quality they want. It's just impossible to put out all the products these rifle/gun manufacturers do, and keep up with customers needs and testing of new products without help.

i had one of the Mossberg ATR100's in 30-06, was very accurate and you're right, it's built to take abuse. but my problem with it was, i have owned many 30-06 rifles over the years and that was one of the hardest recoiling 30-06 rifles i have ever shot! if i was just hunting with it, i might have kept it, but as most of my shooting is target shooting, it had to go. it will be replaced in the near future with the Marlin XL7 in camo. i have three of them now and i really like them better than the Mossberg ATR100's. they seem to handle recoil better. so don't get me wrong, if a person wanted a good, dependable, accurate entry level rifle to hunt with, i would say consider the Mossberg also along with the Marlin X7 series and the Savage Axis series of rifles.

I am not saying you are wrong or calling you a liar but do you have proof? On Smith and Wesson's website it says Made in USA.

i think he is refering to the older smith & wesson bolt actions they had, and if i remember correctly they were made by someone else for them.

It depends on which rifle you are talking about. The S&W 1500 was a Howa 1500 with an S&W stamp on it and was indeed made in Japan. Other rifles may vary.

Smith & Wesson used to market a bolt action rifle made by Howa in Japan. I think they even called it the S&W 1500. I do not think they still sell the S&W IBolt (it is not on their website and I haven't seen one at a store for years). Since S&W bought TC, the Icon and Venture may be their only bolt action offerings.
