As much as I dislike Walmart, this is just horse hockey. What gun maker do you know that would take the risk of intentionally build a second rate product? I can't see the Walmart board allowing the selling an inferior gun, although they certainly do sell second rate other products.

If there were any truth in the rumors, the first accidental death from a Walmart gun would bankrupt the retailer.

It does not make sense.

They are not seconds...It's more a deal where Walmart says they want an X type product but want the cost to be Y so a company will build to get within the parameters. They do it with many things they sell in the store. I have a Sony Bravia 32" TV in my bedroom that was made just for Walmart just for black Friday sales. It's not quite as good as a " regular" Bravia but it more than fills the need I have for it. I had friends that worked there in a mgmt. capacity and got the lowdown some time ago. You can save money but the product even if it is the same brand you see elsewhere might not be exactly the same. It's not always the case as Walmart has HUGE buying power and can get things cheaper and pass that savings on. But one might want to look carefully at tings that seem to be a really good deal there as they might not be the same you can get elsewhere.

I purchased a Remington 700 .223, this rifle not a second hand at all; but, brand new, straight from the factory distribution point. I know of others that have purchased rifles and shotguns from Walmart.

It like purchasing from Sportsman's Warehouse, Dick's Sporting Goods to name a few.

I heard aliens have entered our President's body via his rectal cavity. It was on the internet. HAS to be true right? Walmart guns are fine. Walmart sporting department sales folks tend to be clueless

Local gun shops have no business trying to compete with Walmart. Every gun on the shelf at Walmart is the entry level gun for a given line of guns. If you want something other than the base model a gun shop is your best bet. Now if we can convince our local gun shops that 40% over MSRP is not a fair price. Consumers just use the LGS for a showroom. They actually buy the guns online.

The line I love from the LGS is we can't get the gun for MSRP. Insulting my intelligence is great way to lose my trust.

things must be different in your area. my LGS sells most guns around $50-100 under MSRP. he's usually not too far over what my local WalMart is selling them for.

like to see some of these shops selling at 40% over MSRP. please provide some links to these stores.

I am confident their gun quality is good. But I prefer to buy guns from dealers so I can haggle with them a little bit on getting some good deals and or some special orders.

that is one thing about WalMart and the other big retailers. the price listed is the price you will pay. i have haggled over price at my LGS and the pawn shops and usually get it for less than marked. it's usually under MSRP to begin with. sometimes the LGS will throw in some freebies to sweeten the deal to sway your decision to buy. i have gotten free rings, ammo and slings at times.

Yeah I have haggled with gun shops on several occasions and got some goodies or a reduced price, I bought an XDm at a local pawn shop for less then I could have got it at Academy for.
