W.J. Jeffery .333 EX Engraved Take Down Rifle

This is a W.J. Jeffery, .333 Express take down magazine rifle, which has the old King St., London address. The receiver, trigger guard and floor plate are fully engraved. The Lyman peep sight is dated 1894 and patented 1904. It has 4 folding and 1 fixed rear express sights. The front sight cover pivots and can be removed. The rifle I've been told was mfg. around 1908, but have to get the letter for it, which I've been neglecting for a very long time. The company has been in business since the 1800's to the present.

These rifles were and still are popular when used for hunting dangerous game like tigers in India and lions in Africa. The .333 Jeffery ammo is very difficult to locate and is very expensive, but every so often Kynoch comes up with it. I've shot it in the past and still have some ammo remaining, but it's now retired like myself.

The custom rifle makers like Holland & Holland in England love using the German '98 Mauser actions and the combination of both are unmatched. These rifles are all special ordered by their customers and are even fitted to the individual shooter. They're all beautiful rifles, but the cost is obscene unless you're very wealthy.

Isn't that something!

Can the 333 Jeffrey (I'm not familiar with and I know a few obsolete cartridges) not be made from other cases?

It's nice to know we have at least two rich people on this forum, you and Cane. LOL
Really though, it's a very nice rifle and I know you're proud to have it in your collection.

Hey, question... How aligned are the three sets of sights?

Ah! Nothing says "old money" quite like "I think I shall have a rifle built for me" !!! :p

VERY nice Jeffery! BTW, Shooter's choice carries .333 Rimless brass from Bertram's in Australia. It is only $118/ 20 pieces of BRASS. (I mention this for all whining about the cost of 5.56)
