Vortex Viper?
I'm looking to up grade my scope on my .270. I'm looking at shooting out to 800 yards and am looking for a scope with moa turrents and at least 20 power. From what I've looked at that the vortex viper is pretty good and in my price range. Has anyone got or know much about a vortex viper 6.5x20 50mm?

I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

Look at the long range rifle thread. There's a member on there that has one. There is also another thread where a member is asking about long range shooting with his .270, and having trouble with wind (light bullet I guess)
If you can find these members and PM them, I'm sure they'd be happy to share their thoughts with you.

I've got the Viper you are talking about. I preferred mine in MRAD instead of MOA but the scope is fantastic. A great value as I don't think the scopes in double the price range perform any better. (mine was $900.00 plus tax, shipping, etc.). You would be hard pressed to do better in my opinion as even one of the big names (Leupold) quality is not what it used to be. I can give you a run down on scopes and price ranges if it helps!

Thanks but I've already gone through prices on other scopes. Just wondering about quality.

Theres another member on this forum that shoots with the club that I sometimes shoot with and he has a Vortex Viper. He goes by Chops here and has had very good experience with this scope.

I guess I wasn't clear in my post. When I said the scope compares with those double the price, that includes quality, durability, cost, etc.

I have a Vortex Crossfire, which is their lower end stuff, and I shoot it on my 7mm Rem Mag. For the money, it is a very very nice piece of glass.

I would be careful w/ such a large bell. 50mm is huge! The second point is distance w/ a .270. Practical hunting range is closer to 400 yard max. Sure w/ some game 500 yards. That is a very long shot in the field. Be careful w/ a 6.5-20 for hunting also. Depending on terrian it is to much scope. I use a 6.5-20x42mmAO on a varmint rig, but that is a totally different ballgame. I actually went down to a lower powered scope on almost every hunter I own. My 7mm Rem Mag wears a 2-10x38mm and my .308 HB wears a 3-12x42mmAO. The .308 had a 6-24x40mmAO that was fine for targets, but not practical for hunting. I wish you all the best.
