The lever action has a "bolt" that is actuated by a lever. A semi auto and the k-31 have more in common than a bolt action. What I mean by that is that the bolt head rotates itself in its travel as opposed to a "bolt" action where you the shooter rotate the bolt yourself. We are talking semantics here really. The k-31 never saw battle so I don't know if I would consider it better than battle proven designs such as the smle or Mauser. Still a great gun though. Surplus ammo is pretty much match quality
