Just about any well stocked gunshop- it is known as 7.7 Jap or 7.7 Arisaka. Many on line suppliers have it, but you are not likely ro find CHEAP milsurp ammo for it.

c3 hit the nail on the head. You're probably not going to find a much better deal than that box of Hornady ($26.37 for a box of 20). Not exactly a gun you would go shoot all day, but still not outrageously expensive.

Graf and Son's has 2 different 7.7x58 ammos in stock:

Do you reload? The brass can be made from cut down .30-06... My Type 99 was the main reason I started reloading... I never did have any luck, buying 7.7 ammo.. It was always outta stock, except for norma... and im not gonna pay $40 for 20 rds.. Now that I roll my own, I can shoot the Arisaka all day long for next to nothing...

You use the .30-06 brass and cut it to the correct length, then resize it in the 7.7Jap die.. a set of dies will cost about as much as a box or two of ammo... and probably easier to find..
