I just bought the marlin 1894 .44 mag last week. I absolutely love it. It was dead nuts out of the box at 70-90 yards. I used hornady .44 special as it shoots both magnum/special loads. The hornady spcl is 165 grain ftx and pretty reasonably priced @ $19 a box. My next rifle will be a Henry HOO6 in.357, I love these lever action rifles.

Going to be taking my Rossi out this weekend. I've already upgraded the rear sight to a marbles bullseye. I still want to add a Marlin 44 mag to the stable, but I can wait for the right deal. An 1895 in 45-70 is on the list as well. But my dad just bought a blr in 308 a few weeks ago. Beautiful gun. I'm going to have my pick next season with rifles. I want to get a deer with my grandfather's old Marlin in 35. Would mean a lot to my dad. But I think I'm going to like my little 357. Wish the stock was a bit bigger and fuller, but it should be a fun gun.

Rifle was a blast to shoot. Handled everything I put through it. Absolutely pleased with the purchase.

I've had a Marlin 45/70 for over 35 years now and love it!!!! It can be loaded mild with Trailboss and wild with 3031. Cast bullets or jacketed it loves them all. Everything in NA has been taken with it in spades. Skip the 44 it just doesn't give you the flexibility the 45/70 does. The Marlin 1895 is a great rifle very well made and disassemble easily for cleaning. DONOT buy one with a safety and don't buy one that is made by Remington. I use a lyman peep with mine with the aperture removed and shoot it as a ghost ring. I have tried it with a scope but it just seems more handy with the peep.Try it you'll like it. Liberty

Well I actually sold that rifle and picked up a marlin 1894c. It's a much nicer rifle that fits me better. The Rossi served me well, but the marlin is what I wanted. The marlin is a JM stamped rifle, while it had the safety it had been converted to a non - safety rifle. An 1895 is still on my list. I will likely pick one up this spring

It's completely unnecessary. It is like having a safety on a single action revolver. My marlin has it and I'm not even sure if the thing moves. I grew up on lever guns and have never once felt unsafe without a cross bolt safety.
