trying to decide between a savage/ruger 308

I am looking for a decent bolt in 308 with iron sights. I am trying to decide between a Savage 11G Classic Hunter, Savage 14 Euro Classic, and a Ruger M77 International. Any of you folks have any experience/opinions on these rifles? Do any of them have any plastic parts or any other major flaws?

All the experiences I have had with Savage firearms have been positive. A Plain Jane rifle at a very good price. I am also impressed with Savage Arm's accuracy. In my opinion, you should take a little extra care cleaning the firearm as I don't think there bluing process is as good as some higher priced firearms. I'm not at all knowledgeable about Ruger long guns, so I do not have an opinion, but I do like Savage Firearms.

I have an M77 Mark II in .270. Ruger's quality has been a roller coaster ride. Back when I got mine ('92), they made a good gun. The quality fell off after they changed locations. I've heard they are making a good gun again. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but I know the trigger on the older guns was horrible. They are non-adjustable and have about 3 feet of travel with a pull weight pretty close to that of a half-grown elephant. If you could get past the trigger, they were pretty accurate. I've seen some groups that looked like clover leaves. I had some work (trigger job, floated barrel, etc) done to mine and now it shoots a lot better.

Thanks for the help. I was already leaning towards one of the savages, and I think that is what I'm going to buy.

I have a .308 in the Ruger M77 MarkII and love it,i also have a Savage Lever in .308 And thought i have never used the Savage to hunt with as i belong to my dad and is close to 50 years old it has slayed a many of deer and i never once heard him say anything bad about it in all my 33 yrs.So i think either way you go you will be happy.

P.S. Good choice in caliber i love the .308!!!
