Traded for a NIB Marlin 56
I've been debating for a while about selling my Mini 14,so today I dug it out from the back of the safe and went to a local gun shop. I've known the owner since he bought the shop and trade with him all the time, but he usually doesn't have many guns that I'm looking for but someone came in last week and sold him some of their private collection and one was a Marlin Model 56-Short throw Lever Action,Clip magazine,22lr. Unfired-NIB.
I have wanted one of these forever, but most I have seen were either way over priced or beat to death.
They only made 31,523 of these from 1955-1964,and I find one that has never been fired with the original box-How lucky am I! The gun shop traded me the Marlin 56 & some cash for my Mini 14.
Only bad part about the trade is I now have another safe queen that won't get used.

Nice catch! Really nice catch! I remember eyeballing them in high school.
I got the JC Higgins version of the model 57 with the tube mag. Wish I still had it!
Look what I found:

Canebrake,Nice ol' ad about the 57 & 62 and what about the new prices back then. Hell, you can barely buy a brick of good 22 ammo for that now.
I wish it would have been a Model 57,I would rather have the tube mag instead of the clip. But this gun probably never get shot by me anyway so it doesn't matter.

Have a 57 and a 62 in 30 carbine
Courtesy of my Father I was lucky enough to get a 57 and a 62 in 30 carbine. Now I'm gonna dig em out and play with them. Thanks for reminding me of POP.

Shrek, the original price was around $60. I traded a 180 series Ruger Mini 14 that I also traded for back in 1980,plus I also got some cash back on the Marlin trade so I'm on the plus end of the deal. Right now a nice used Model 56 is going for $399 according to Cabella's-they have two in inventory. But this one is new/unfired with the original box.
