i would stick with a standerd bolt action rifle chamberd in .308(7.62 nato) they are light on recoil and are easy to find. good starter gun.

Which M1A/M14 manufacturers do you recommend? Smith Enterprises seems to be a custom shop? The Springfield M1A scout straight from factory w/o mods seems like a reasonable choice...
