Default Thoughts on the Remington .280

First, hello to everyone. Been on the site awhile but never posted. I recently purchased a Remington 700 CDL DM in the Remington .280. Beautiful gun with a solid Leupold scope and rings. Love the satin walnut stock and tge drop mag makes reloading nice for me. The purchase included 6 boxes of Remington 150gr ammo. I really enjoyed shooting it last week. I know the debate between the .280 v .270 v .30-06 and limited factory ammo. Just wanted to see if anyone else has enjoyed their .280 or has concerns. Thank you.

I don't think there is a debate as far as the .280 is concerned? It's a great caliber and I don't think there are too many people that would disagree with that. My dad hunts with the same set up you have except his is a BDL mountain rifle and it has served him well for many few years now. I think you will be very pleased with the rifle and caliber.

the 280 Remington is one of my favorites. excellent ballistics. i don't seem to find a lot of factory ammo in my area for this 280, but since i reload and there is an ample selection of 7mm bullets on the market, it's an easy one to reload.

really i find the ballistics much better than the 270 Win. and getting close to the 7mm Rem. Mag. without the recoil of a magnum cartridge.

like the 30-06 and 270, i doubt there are many game animals that couldn't be taken in North America with the 280 if one used proper shot placement and the correct ammo.

The .280 is a great round, I may have bought one instead of a 7mmRemMag back when, but I do love the Mag just the same. With either powder choice makes a big difference as far as recoil. I am an old timer and use IMR4831. The difference between the 2 7mm calibers is only a few hundred feet per second. At 300 yards, there is no game that will know the difference.

I have a Model 740 in this caliber and just love it. I'm a southpaw shooter and being this is a semi auto, it fills the bill with me. Actually, I find it to be one of the best hunting cartridges out there. Just my two bits.

Thanks. I appreciate the comments. I feel it was a good choice for the price and your comments help confirm the decision. It is truly a joy to shoot. Very little recoil, great accuracy and hits hard. All I need now is the S.Georgia white tails to cooperate this fall.
