Think I fell in love.
I was at bass pro. (don't roast me as this is the bps that won't sell to wisconsin) I saw a savage 93R in 17 hmr anyone shoot this gun 400 bucks seems like a deal. 400 is kinda far off but a hell of a lot cheaper to shoot than my 12 ga. Also this would be my first rifle. What are the ranges for the 17 hmr round? The only rifle I shot was a remington 700 in .270 what are the differences between the rounds?

17hmr is right inbetween 22lr and 22wmr. great for dispatching squirrels rabbits nutria and other very small game. but thats about it. it should never be used on deer sized game. in most states its illegal to use a rimfire for deer hunting.
you can prolly do waaay better than that price online. bps prices are very inflated

Buckethead, Try the Cabela's in Hoffman Estates or the Gander Mt. in Rockford.
Jim
PS: You may want to look at the Model 25.

I had that same rifle probably years older. It had the accutrigger. Very good shooter. Not as cheap to shoot as you would like to think. Extra mags were @ 15.00 dollars each 2~3 years ago. I would feel comfortable shooting 150+ yards with it. I'm sure others will say it can be accurate farther out. I would look for a used one. 250.00~300.00 w/scope is common down here.

I may just look for a used 270. I would like to use it on larger game like deer. Thanks for the info. And anything is cheaper than a 12 ga. 60 bucks for 50 slugs. Vs. the 15 it is for 50 of these rounds.

Yes, but like others said above, you are pigeon holed into a few hunting choices.

A 308 would be cheaper to shoot than a 270 if cost is your biggest factor. There wont be much difference between the cost to shoot the 270 and the 12 gauge. Of course you could just buy a 22lr for practice and fun. Shoot aspirins at 50 yards if you want a challenge. A Cheerio on a string makes a good target also.
