I know there are wood stocks and modern stocks for it;

But are there any reproduction stocks? I love the default stocks look - However, it is beat up and dinged up.

I've red around about sanding it down and re-finishing it, but I'm worried I'd mess it up.

I've seen videos on youtube or people of pictures with Mosin Stocks that look brand spanking new, like they just came out of the factory. Not all Mosins are created equal..

And I realize some purists right now are hanging their heads in disgust at the thought.

I've searched and found nothing, annoyingly enough.

But none are the original stock style, which I would love, just new.

Also, anywhere I can get new barrel bands? The brass ones on mine have a few green specs on them.

I don't really want to go Modernized, but the Ati Monte Carlo stock looks about what I should get, versus the beatup Mosin Stock.

1938 Tula from what I've researched.

From what I see on that website, only used, WW2 ones or Synthetic versions are available, much like ATI's, disappointing.

So there'd be little point in upgrading. The site says they are all banged, dinged up, or even cracked.

They aren't particularly valuable guns. Refinishing isn't gonna hurt the value really. I refinished mine.

Yeah, but I'm terrible at stuff like that.

And I know they aren't valuable guns, but I'd still like to have mine looking wonderful, all shined up and purty, you know?:P

Absolutely. It's easy to do. Start with 80 grit and sand the finish off. Use wet towel and an iron to steam the dents out. Then sand with continually finer grain sand paper. Stain, wet sand with stain, stain again. And then a few coats of a sealer. Just takes time.

The brass barrel bands should clean up with a little elbow

grease.

I refinished my Polish M44 because I thought the light

stock looked like crap. It's not a valued collector item,

OTOH, OTOH, I like the darker finish, personally. I doubt

I'll ever sell it, though, it's one of my favorite guns.


Just don't persuade yourself that anybody but you will

perceive anything you change on the original as an

improvement, in any way...
