What is NOT to like about these rifles?? Cheap rifle, obviously reliable as hell, cheap to shoot, easy to modify, fun to shoot and everyone wants to know what just went BOOM at the range. I was given mine for free. All I had to do was pay the FFL transfer fee.

So far, I've added a Brass Stacker scope mount and scout scope and rubber butt pad. I have a bent bolt and a swivel mount bipod coming. The next round will be a Timney Trigger. And I plan to paint the original stock after I have modified it for the bent bolt.

I agree with you 100%. If you know what you ate doing, M91s are just as good, if not better, than a lot of other stuff out there.

Here's my refinished M44. After I Strip-Eased off the original ridiculous looking orange finish, it took a bit of playing to get the color I wanted. I started off with English Chestnut, then added Ebony to darken. About 4 total coats went on, all being wiped off for excess. Its a beautiful brown finish now. If there are red highlights in the pic its most likely due to the direct sun lighting. A also decided to paint the top wooden piece above the barrel, where the rings go. The piece of wood they originally used was horrible looking. It almost looked like someone carved it out of a crappy piece of bamboo. Just terrible. No stain in the world would help. So I painted it black and shined up the aluminum end caps. All in all, I think it looks great.
