I was wanting to paint the stock black, but since its a real Russian is there any *cool* factor or what have you on it? Or are they a dime s dozen an go head an paint it?

It depends. If it is a 91/30 beater do whatever you want, it can't loose value. If it is rare, Mosins have been known to go for upwards of $2,000!

I bought mine for $115 and it's worth > $900! The seller never knew!

Post some detailed pictures. Be sure to post date and manufacturer. I posted a link a couple of posts back that will greatly help you identify the rifle if you'd like to check it out as well.

I don't know, it has tula stars and izhevsk arrows, but everything matches, deffinitally not forced match. I think its Izhevsk.

I don't personally enjoy modifying mosins USUALLY but there would be no issue doing anything to yours. I recommend durocoating it.
