I have a couple of these with the Gen 2 XR reticles...

I also have Kahles 6-24X56 with mill reticle and knobs.

There is a couple of old Leupold VXIII's that I used to use in the mix as well but they are not mounted on rifles at this time and probably wont be either.

The rest of my rifles have the iron sights which have become difficult for me to use due to my aging eyes. However, the with the M1A peep sight I went to a smaller aperature and it works for me out to 100 yards or so as far as clear target picture goes.
A good piece of glass is like a fine piece of ass. There is no known substitute known to man, and neither are cheap.

For sitting on top of a hill and looking for anything around to shoot, I like my 6x24 Bausch and Lomb varmint scope ontop of my Sako 25.06.

For quick acquisition onto targets, (Home defense and 4 legged predators in the winter time while snowshoeing) I like my Aimpoint PRO red dot on top of my AR-15

Most of my long guns that need optics wear night force. I have one with a Sightron SIII and like it as well. I also believe that you can get high quality optics in the $200 to $500 range as well for just about any need.
