The 742 had issues. We call the 760 (7600)a Pa. machine gun. If you've ever hunted the western woods of Pa. you will know what I'm talking about. There was a video a few years back of a MORON with a 7600 unloading a full mag on a moose, reloading, spending that ammo, yelling for more ammo on a moose at 75 yards. It ran for 3.5 miles, all tapped. It took 3 rounds to finish it off. Just BS.

Sounds like it.

One or two well-placed shots ought to do the job.

Well, it takes all kinds...

Sounds like it was a problem with the shooter though, rather than the rifle. I've seen some guys at the range shoot some pretty creditable groups with 760's before. The guy probably had a good dose of buck fever, or maybe he was kind of excitable to start with.

It was the shooter, no doubt. The rifle is sound.

I wanted one too, but could not get over the rattling forend. A shotgun may be loosey goosey, but in a rifle you want everything tight. Even seasoned hunters won't say the 7600 is cat's meow. Here the caliber is illegal for deer, but if it were legal, I can't think of a reason to choose the 7600 over a lever, bolt, or semi-auto. You can easily sell the mag on ebay.

Uh, they made 'em in .35 Rem.
Trim some cases.

Reasons?
1. Free float barrel
2. Faster 2nd shot (or 3rd or 4th- if a string of does comes out and you have a pocketful of tags, and somebody to video it )
3. Looks (I think they look neat).
4. It's not a 742 (maybe that should be the #1 reason).
5. Can get with high comb stock (or change to it).

I'd take one over a Marlin or Winchester lever gun.

The other less well discussed rifle was the Savage 170 pump rifle in 30-30Win and .35Rem.

A Browning BPR is really nice - if you can find one.
