I can't WAIT to get an AK! This is a weapon that is very definitely on my list. However, I don't feel it fits this need. Really my need would be best served by an AR-15 in .223, I feel. I just can't fit one in my price limit. If I could find a stock AR under $1000 I would definitely consider it, and then try to fit in buying ammo somewhere else in my budget.

I don't feel I am capable (time...knowledge...skills) to build an AR-15 myself. Does anybody have a good suggestion for a stock AR under $1000? If not, I am still being pushed in the direction of the Ruger.

Until I buy, I am ALWAYS willing to change my opinion.

you can change out the bi pod for an AR foregrip too witch is cool because the bi pod is the only lame part about the gun

But, I really only want one rifle for now. I want to be ready for SHTF. I want something that could bag small game without exploding them in half, but big enough to give a good chance of bagging larger game. I also want something with a magazine so I could use if for defense against zombies or tyrannical governments (not a single shot bolt-action). It also needs to use ammo that is a little less expensive, easier to obtain, and easy to reload if I learn how.

I know, I really should have different tools for each need, but what should I buy right now? Please!!
CZ 58s Get 2 crates of surplus ammo to go with it. It is every bit as accurate as an Ar-15 (puts on asbestos flame suit) and ammo is dirt cheap. A crate of 1120 rounds here in Canada will run you 200 bucks. The rifle itself is about 800. When you pick one up you will realize how well built they are.

I love my AR's but, Id have to go with my AK. Its not picky on ammo, always fires, and I can yell like an idiot while running the streets with it.
