Suggestions on a good .308

I was looking to buy a .308 bolt action. I'm trying to stay as cheap as possible but I don't wanna waste money on a crap rifle I won't like shooting. I've read a lot of up and down reviews on both the savage axis and the remington 700. Anyone have any suggestions on those or any other .308's and prices please

Remington, Savage or Marlin make great entry level .308 (or any other caliber) bolt action rifles. If recommend getting anyone of them that has an adjustable trigger. My only con would be the Savage. I've had extraction problems with multiple different caliber Savage Axis rifles.

I agree on the marlin.

As to the savage extraction problems pm me and ill tell you how to fix it if they aren't throwing the case out but will pull em from the chamber

You can't really compare the 700 to the Axis, the Remington competition to the Axis would be the model 770, it is their cheaper line and is a different action design and I haven't heard many people who like it, I do hear good things about the Axis and the Marlin. Also Ruger has the American which is their value bolt action but from what I have seen it is priced a little higher than the Axis or Rem 770. If you REALLY want one of the value priced guns these are the models I would be comparing, if it were me I would save up a little longer and get a good bolt action in the 700, Savage 14/12/11/10 variety, Ruger 77, or Winchester Model 70 or look for one of these used.

Take a serious look at the Marlin. You won't be disappointed.

My axis shoots great. $429 out the door at my LGS, it came with a scope which I liked

I had a Ruger bolt action that shot nice. I like bull barrels, and the taper on the stainless barrel was irritating to me for no good reason. Shot great, but it was not what I wanted. I love AR's, so the first time I saw a AR10 with a stainless bull barrel, I traded a old Winchester straight across for it. He threw in 1000 rounds of 308. We both liked that trade.

Still have five Winchesters, and now have five AR's, one a DPMS LR-308 that I love. Prefer a semiautomatic over a bolt, and much prefer a bull barrel.

Get what you like!

Something like this will do... REM 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD. Optic is a Vortex Diamondback 4X12X40.. Now if I could come up with 2K to trick it out..haha #TACKDRIVER!!!

That is my kind of barrel!

Again, it is what the OP wants that counts.

There is not s long gun in Wal-Mart a person could not hunt with. It is all a matter of acceptance.
