Default Suggest hunting/range cal. for N.Americas.

I'm looking to buy a hunting rifle for N.American game but that I could spend some range time with and won't get caught up in this "Assault" weapon ban bull.

so .223 | .243 | .270 | .30 .06 | 30-30 | .308?

*Additive, that Marlin 336w 30-30 is kind of calling to me, do they have a good reputation?

*Do you think they would ever prohibit the sale of .223?

More information about what type of North America game hunting? And where you're hunting will better determine which cartridge would suit your needs best.

the .30-06 and .308 are hard to best.

OTOH, if you're not going to hunt anything larger than deer and feral hog, a .223 is far less expensive to shoot, and almost zero recoil.

If you aren't interested in a paramilitary erifle, take a real hard look at the little Remington Model 7. A very light, handy little rifle and quite accurate.

My son has taken at least a dozen mule deer and twice that many antelope with his model 7 in Cal. 6MM Remington.
The 6MM Remington and .243 are also fine calibers for deer, but a bit more expensive to shoot than .223.

Marlin X gun in 7-08. Way more solid than the Ruger. If you go with the 30-30, stay away from the 336w. It has those gawd awful micro grooves.

30/06 or .308 are both suitable for any large North American game. The .223 will do fine for white tails and pigs though, but you must be accurate. The 30/30 is a fine gun as well, but I would definitely get something older.

What do you mean "Older" as in a used Marlin or Win, are the newer ones of poor quality?

The 336 is a fine gun. New or old.

308 or 30-06 is perfect. 308 is used worldwide.
