Hows it going everyone! I Made a little video showing what a Mosin Nagant 7.62x54r surplus steel core round does to a 1" steel block. Please tell me what you think.

That steel core is known as mild, not hardened. Still would make swiss cheese of a softer target.

Without a steel core, probably less penetration. 8x57 SmKH had a tungsten core and could penetrate 22mm(.86") of plate steel at over 500 yards. 1" at 100 would be childs play. .30-06 Black tip will also penetrate 1" of plate steel. Armor steel is a different story. M2AP is rated for .35" and SmKH .40". In one side of an armored vehicle and then the bounce around a bit.

I agree, at 400 yards it still almost penetrates 3/8" steel. For sure 1/2" at 100 yards.

I'd be interested to see what it would have done had the steel been supported so it couldn't move and had to take all the energy from the bullet.

it looks like it went 1/2" to 3/4". so if it was braced it would have punched right through. If it was 3/4" or deeper from free floating the it would make it through.
