Star 556

Dear Gun Nuts,

I know very little about firearms.
It would, however, be crucial to my costume I own a "long range assault rifle" :o
Could a kind soul identify this presumably obscure gun thing? The description alone screams fictional, but it looks quite nice.

Is it an M85?

What you have there is a mock up based on a Heckler & Kock G-36. Here it is in a couple of variants.

As you can see, your video game version has the long barrel, but also has the longer optics rail that is raised above the weapon. The bull barrel end is no doubt to simulate a suppressor of some sort that will thread on and off depending on mission type.

The stock has been bastardized to be more in line of some hybrid offspring from the Wa-2000 and the PSG-1.

You aren't going to find one like that, you are going to have to buy an airsoft model and do the mods yourself. Is your costume worth another $500-$600 dollars?

Would an airsoft version be as modular as the real deal, as far as assembly is concerned?

I don't believe the G36 is available here in the states, and it has a full auto capability, which makes it a controlled item which equals lots and lots of $$$$.

You can get the civilian version, the SL8 ( for around $2500 ) and then have to change the top rail out to match the high rise G36 and get a suppressor ( also Class III and a controlled item = $$$ ).

Most airsoft these days is made to pretty closely match the weapon it is copying. A lot of the stuff out of Asia is very good on replica, cheap on internal parts that make it work

I would look for a knock off of the SL8, mock a suppressor out of some PVC, paint it black, throw on a cheap red dot optic and no one is going to be the wiser.

I hate to sound fruity, but I'm probably not going to shoot it anyhow. I'm also aware this isn't an airsoft site, but I really must ask.

How does this sound, price wise?

Moreover, where should I look for a PSG1ish stock?

Dillinger 09-30-2010 09:22 PM

It's been a dozen years since I played airsoft, so I can't say on the pricing or even parts. Back in the day, Redwolf airsoft was the only place to shop because they had the best stuff and were reliable.

There is link to an SL8 with the stock you want. The only thing you would have to do is raise the sight rail, could be done easy enough with some basic plastic parts from Home Depot and then mock up a suppressor for the barrel and you are good to go.
