Nooooooooo . . . I asked twice if "April" wasn't a mistake. Oregon State Police do the check, and I doubt they're in violation of any federal mandate.

Nonetheless, I'm contacting NRA by phone Monday morning to see what they think. I bought a rifle in November, two more back in about July. These were FBI checks, federal, out of WA state -- and they both got delayed. Nonetheless, they both got approved and the Federales should have a record of the approval.

A cursory visit to my "gun room" at the end of the hall would amply demonstrate to any BATF type why one more rifle is not going to change the equation much as regards my being armed (and not dangerouns).

You NEED to check with the state laws concerning delays. As far as state laws, I don't know what your state laws are, but federally they're NOT allowed to delay over 3 days, as any FFL holder can verify. After 3 days they either have to grant OR deny by federal law currently.

OK, state cleared up the delay, and I drove the 70 mi. round trip to pick it up at the shop. Bore sighting w/ a collimator, the guy there unscrewed the reticle assy and let all the gas out of the tube. Then, he went after the torx screws on the $120 Leupold Mark 4 rings w/ a hex key -- when I flagged him on the foul!

Send it back to Leupold for service. I'm "annoyed."

New $1200,00 scope I haven't yet taken possession of, and it's back at the mfg's for "repair." Leupold will do me square. That's what they do. But I'm miffed . . .

Did I mention that I'm piss'd?

Bought a Leupold Quick Zero Collimator from Midway. I'll set up my own scope, thanks all the same!

Real easy to do yourself with the Leupold Quick Zero Collimator. Even easier with a "Site Lite" brand laser bore sighter. I generally use the Leupold Collimator in the field for quick check and the laser bore sighter for the initial zero. All either of them will do is get you on the paper.

It's 25 yds from the garage to the barn door, where I hang a pie plate and sight down the tube w/ the gun in a rack. That gets me "on paper" . . . and then, eat yer heart out, my buddy on the next ridge has 100 yds off his garage w/ a reload bench just inside the door.

We're working on a 300 yd range w/ concrete bench.
