Default SKS sight rails

been using my yugo sks with just iron sights for years. Ready to put optics on curious as to wether the gas tube rail is better opposed to on the receiver. I like the position of the optics on the receiver but heard it rattles around when you shoot also how are the side rail mounts

I learned some things about myself while trying to scope my SKS. I don't have a long eye relief scope to mount up front. I don't have the patience for the weeble-wobble receiver cover mounts that i tried (3 kinds). I don't have the need to scope my SKS enough to justify the cost of a side rail setup, including the cost for a smith to tap my receiver for mounting screws.

I hope you have better luck. I ended up putting some Tech Sights peep sights on mine instead.

Thanks for the info just needed to hear it from someone who tried. I have kept it with no optics for so long because i didn't want to make the jump when I could upgrade my rifles that are set to mount. Il keep the sights I think a low power scope would be nice though.
