Default Sks Moa?

I was at the LGS and he had a couple Yugos, he's asking 400$ but Im fairly sure I can get him down to 300$. Everyone always says the Sks is more accurate than the AK, but what kind of groupings can I actually expect to get at a 100 to 200 yards out of an Sks?

That is a little high for a Yugo, I spent $229.00 for one with all matching serial numbers a couple of years ago. Accuracy will depend on how used up the barrel is. First time out I got 6 inch groups with wolf ammo and open sights at 50 yards. Not great accuracy, but was able to get 2 inch groups with my own reloads at that range. Part of the problem is the trigger, it is very ruff and needs to be worked on, but I am keeping mine in C&R condition just as is. It is a historic rifle and not a percission tack driver. It is usable for hunting but not for bullseye shooting. The price the LGS is asking would only be for a Russian made model, otherwise they should sell for less than $300.00.

Good Luck.
Jim

Yeah I knew the price was on the high end, I wasn't nessecarily looking for a bulls eye shooter, just something a little more accurate than the Ak. From what I can gather their really not much more accurate..

The Russian or Chinese models might be, with a little less stuff hanging from the end and a little work, they can be. The Yugo is at the bottom of the desired models. But I love a rifle with a gernade launcher and fixed bayonet on it, it is cool and fun to shoot, and a lot more accurate than I expected from a cold war rifle. I haven't tried it with the scope yet, but I hope it will shoot 1 inch groups at 50 yards. That should be accurate enough.

Jim

Not a target rifle, but a military carbine, intended to shoot people at 350-400 meters. Trigger could use improvemen on most. Slightly more accurate than the average AK. Figure 2-3 inches at 100. That is still "minute of opponent" at 400. If you get better than that, smile.

My SKSs are more accurate than my AK.

They're built better, with a longer sight radius.

Still, they are only milsurps. Great truck guns,

but IME, 3-4 MOA.

Just about ALL semi auto rifles run high nowadays. 300 is a deal in my opinion, the SKS is not a bench gun nor a long range shooter, what it is, is an affordable rifle that's a blast to shoot, at $300, buy one. $400, pass.

I wouldn't give more than about $340.

Prices on AK's have gone way up in the last few months. People are getting scared.

I've only shot one, offhand at 100 yards on an 8 inch target, hit all 5 shots taken. They all hit on the right side of the target so it was probably a 5 inch group.
That is how well I do with just about all my rifles.

I had a norinco, I put a dust cover scope mount and 4x scope on it. I was getting about 4-4.5 inches at 100 yards with wolf ammo.
