Default Sks

Just bought a Norinco SKS, paid more then i wanted to at $250 but it was brand new with all the gear but bayonet and 1k rounds with stripper clips, anyway, it has a plastic upper hand gaurd and i was wondering if any one knows a good site to get a wood hand gaurd to replace the plastic one, thx.

First off, that is an excellent deal. With ammo, it's a steal. If you don't care for it, I'll give you what you paid for it. Really.

As far as parts, I've seen them available at lots of sources on the net. Maybe google SKS handguard and/or parts? I just did and found a bunch of stuff.

Congrats on your new shootin' iron.

Ehh iv seen them go for cheaper but thats another story i googled it a bit ago and almost all of them are aftermarket rails, and the few sites that have wood are old beat up surplus hand gaurds and i dont wana mess with sanding them down and refinishing but it looks like thats what ima have to do. Ill do a range report in the next few days on how it shoots with pics etc.

That is one hell of a good price for the gun and ammo. Good find.

Wow i didnt relize it was that good a price, i know about ammo but i mean the gun itself, their value is around 250 to 300 brand new, givin they are kinda hard to find but when you come across them there about about 150 to 200 in used but good condition such as in pawn shops etc. but then again i seem to be the only one that has wal marts that sell brand new mossberg 500's for $200 Heck every few issues of cheaper then dirt magazines i get they sell new surplus SKS's for $199

What about one of the metal, ventilated "cheese grater"-style handguards?

I like the look & have one, but haven't swapped it out on mine yet.

SKS Rifle Vented HandGuard Ventilated Steel Hand Guard - eBay (item 400191306924 end time Feb-27-11 07:48:28 PST)

edit* Egay has some wood too. http://cgi.ebay.com/SKS-Wooden-Handguard-YUGOSLAVIAN-ORIGINAL-YUGO-/190502953188?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5adc 60e4

I also saw a stock + HG set looking inexpensive ATM.

I have looked at them before and cant really say i have a taste for them, id rather keep the rifle all original in condition such as a wood hand guard, only thing i need is a spike stlye bayonet and the wood front gaurd, the one thats on it is plastic and is a sand mud brown and does not match the rest of the rifle, its a eye sore.

(Before any one gets threat happy, from the best the ATF could dig up its a pre ban rifle even though they dont keep a list of imported rifles from that long ago)
