What range?
What targets?
This is exactly what needs to be considered by the OP and everyone else. Also, SURPRISE... AR's aren't the be-all/end-all of the gun world. FYI, I own two and I'm very happy with them for the purpose they were designed for, varmint hunting and self defense. OTOH, they aren't my first choice when it comes to harvesting small game or anything larger than a deer in a situation where you need to put food on your table.

Personally, I'd have several weapons in my SHTF armory. First, several .22LR/.22WCM rifles and pistols (a Ruger 10/22 or my favorite the M&P-15-22 and a revolver) for small game and defense against critters. An AR or similar type rifle in .223/5.56 and a 9mm thru .45 caliber handgun for medium and longer range protection. Finally, a good 12g or 20g pump shotgun for most other situations. OTOH, if I lived in Alaska I'd want several bigger caliber weapons for use on the large animals that live there. If I anticipate having to survive in an urban environment where self-defense is the main concern, an AR or AK and a hicap handgun would be the weapons of choice.

This is my personal list and as I already said, you need to look at your needs and circumstances then pick the weapons that best fill those needs.

Im not gonna open this can of worms, but in my use of the AR, AK, SKS, and 10/22 none were more "reliable" than the other.

Default it has already htf

advice : never sell a gun unless you need food or shelter. Best gun(s) for shtf scenarioimho is a ruger 10/22 and a ruger mk target pistol ....2 gun 1 ammo principle if I have to bug out I can put 5000 rds of .22lr aquilla super max hp in a backpack, try that with a .223 or 7.62 ...I can hunt food or defend . If I need a bigger gun I'll be camo'ed up and pop an insurgent in the head ,and take his/her big gun.

Unless you're going to war, why on earth would you need more than 150-200 rounds of ammo? 5000???? In a backpack?? for what??

That's great. One guy thinks 150 rounds is fine and another thinks it's 5,000. Both preparedness experts think it's the .22 LR they need to bet their life on. Probably gonna argue they'll live in the mountains on mean, wild, squirrels next...

Maybe we should kill this thread a troll started anyway at this point, before someone else risks their life based on nonsense...

Default reason

The point is to take all ammo one has for said gun(s). why leave it ? ammo can be used for currency during a shtf scenario . Im a realist and Im not into arguing because I'm always right , 90% of people are easy targets anyway because they usually have their head up their ass .
